Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel

Research Association

The Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel maintain collections representing over 500 years of German literary, cultural and intellectual history. The Herzog August Bibliothek possesses some of the most important late medieval and early modern manuscripts, the archives of the DLA Marbach contain about 1,600 items, for instance from Friedrich Schiller’s estate, but also numerous contemporary works, and the collections of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek in Weimar, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv are home to countless historical volumes and manuscripts. To make this knowledge accessible to researchers in its entirety, the three institutions established the MWW Research Association at the recommendation of the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) in 2013. The MWW conducts research activities in the area of digital humanities, the processes and methods of which we use to develop new, exemplary solutions for studying and indexing the collections.

The goal of the research association is to provide future-oriented impulses for collaboration in the field of humanities and cultural studies research. The Digital Laboratory serves as a competence centre for research collaboration independent of location which offers innovative approaches for establishing digital research infrastructures on data modelling, long-term storage and digital humanities. MWW intensively collaborates with national and international partners, e.g. universities, collection-holding institutions, research institutes and associations. The MWW is strongly committed to promoting junior researchers within the context of international networks.

This website provides an overview over the first (2013–2019) and the second funding period (2019–2024). From March 2024 MWW is continued by the participating institutions.
